Better Drainage Reduces Insect Nuisance
Based on recommendations from MWY's 2001 preliminary engineering report, Phase I of this project improved drainage in a 1,400-foot culvert, which had become an insect nuisance and source of citizen complaints due to standing water. Phase 1 consisted of improvements to the exsisting channel, currently a 1400 linear foot, grass lined trapezoidal ditch. The ditch was deepened and lined with concrete to improve the flow of storm water runoff into a box culvert under a roadway.
Planned for completion in 2004, Phase II calls for the construction of another storm drainage system upstream of the Phase I improvements. This addition ‚ designed to intercept stormwater runoff along several streets and direct it to the improved Phase I channel ‚ will include more than 3,000 feet of storm drainage pipe in diameters of 18 inches to 60 inches.
